$4.3B Natural Gas Utility Undertakes Application Portfolio Management (APM)
The CEO and CIO of the $4.3 billion natural gas utility company were concerned that the company’s IT spend was in-creasingly growing, yet the additional value gained from the spending was unclear. The company, focused on natural gas production and distribution to over 250,000 customers, had grown through expansion and acquisition, and as a re-sult had become organizationally and geographically fragmented. In an effort to “clean house” within the IT divisions, the CEO and CIO began a company-wide software rationalization initiative. Of particular concern, significant time and money was being allocated to “keeping the lights on” for various legacy applications. The executives desperately need-ed to gain control over the budget being spent on all IT applications.
